Normally the court will issue what is known as an interim order that prevents creditors from taking any action against the debtor until he has had time to review the circumstances, interact with creditors and reaching a final decision. The immediate effect on the debtor is that the threats by mail and telephone cessation, often taking a lot of tension in the shoulders of the debtor and making it easier for him or her to consider a plan of action from a more objective position.
